The Carousel Rest Area of Shelby opened in May of 2018. The idea of a carousel was born in 2016 when Harry Benjamin, a retired farmer, was asked to help a traveling carnival repair their carousel. The mechanically-minded Mr. Benjamin discovered that the 1936 Allen Herschell carousel was for sale, and he purchased it.

The Community of Shelby pitched in to help restore the historic carousel, construct a building and set up a nonprofit organization to help with its operation and maintenance.

The Carousel's summer hours are Monday through Saturday from 11 AM to 7 PM. They are closed on Sunday. You can find this lovely addition to our town just south of Highway 2 behind Pizza Hut.

We would like to invite everyone to stop in and take a spin - and make sure to have some Montana-Made Wilcoxin's Ice Cream while you're there!

Mission statement:

The Shelby Area Chamber of Commerce serves to promote a positive business environment as a voice and resource in partnership with business, education, agriculture, civic and community organizations throughout Shelby and Toole County.

What The Chamber Does For You!

  • We keep an office open, making it possible for people to make a direct contact when needing answers to questions about our town and area. To keep an office open the Chamber must pay rent, wages, phone and supplies.
  • We must pay dues and belong to the Montana Chamber in order to be listed as a town with a Chamber office and phone number. From that, the Montana Chamber keeps direct contact with us concerning Chamber issues.
  • We are a liaison between City, County, School and State of Montana, giving each of these entities a contact for projects and information.
  • Chamber offices are always the first contact made by people interested in relocating, doing business, or studying our area.
  • We also spend a lot of time doing tourism promotion and provide information to said tourists.

Why Should I Belong to the Chamber of Commerce?

  • Chamber is an organized effort to promote, increase and improve business in our community.
  • Chamber is an organized liaison between business, school, service organizations, and all aspects of the community.
  • Chamber is organized for the purpose of advancing the economic, professional, cultural, and civic welfare of the city and the area.
  • We try to encourage growth of existing business while giving proper assistance to any new firm or individual seeking to locate in our area.
  • We support all activities believed to be beneficial to the community and the area, and oppose those that might be detrimental.
