I picked to do Alliance for Youth as a feature as I feel the word could be spread more about what they can offer and who to contact in our community. Any program helping youth, or anyone for that matter, is something we should all be aware of, I am doing my part in helping spread the word. Our youth is the future of our country, and on a local scale, our town of Shelby.
When I first started my job, my paths crossed with Mary Miller who was the person in charge from this area of Alliance for Youth. We talked a few times and I learned more about what this program can do, and also they became members of the Chamber too at that time! Since then Mary has moved on to working with Donna Whitt at the Justice Court, and Toole County Health Department took over the Alliance for Youth program. I look forward to working with the gals at the Health Department on future projects! They include Blair Tomsheck, Darla Winney, & Shiloh Neal. We already have some irons in the fire that the Chamber can partner up with. They are very community involved and eager to help, I've seen and worked with them at the Farmers Market’s here in Shelby and they also played a big role with setting up the National Night Out on August 1st. If anyone has any health related questions or what programs Alliance for Youth or the Health Department has to offer stop in or give them a call!
